Georgia Stanway could be set for a race against time to make the Lionesses Euro 2025 squad after undergoing surgery on her knee.
The England midfielder has ruptured her LCL in training and is expected to face an extended period on the sidelines, Bayern Munich confirmed on Thursday.
Although not typically severe as the dreaded ACL injury, the timeframe for LCL recovery can be between three and nine months.
With the Euros kicking off in Switzerland in less than six months, Sarina Wiegman will be sweating on the fitness on one of her most influential players.
This news comes only a month after Stanway’s England teammate Alex Greenwood also suffered the same injury while playing in a Champions League game for Manchester City.
Stanway has made 75 senior international appearances after being handed her debut by then England boss Phil Neville.

Despite initially struggling for minutes following the arrival of Sarina Wiegman, she was named in the Lionesses squad for Euro 2022 on home soil.
The 26-year-old went on to score in England’s 2-1 win over Spain in the quarter-finals before starting alongside Keira Walsh in midfield in the final as the hosts triumphed over Germany at Wembley.
She also netted in the opening fixture at the 2023 World Cup, and started every game in England’s run to the final.
