On Armed Forces Day, Great British Energy – Nuclear is proud to announce that it has received the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.
The award recognises employers that demonstrate support for members of the Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families.
At GBE-N, we believe that delivering energy sovereignty, and the UK’s clean energy future, will require talent from every part of society. As we work to support the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), the skills developed through military service have an important role to play.
Many veterans and reservists have experience operating in highly regulated environments, managing complex projects, maintaining rigorous safety standards and leading teams in challenging circumstances. These are capabilities that are equally valuable within the nuclear sector.
The transition from military service to civilian careers can present challenges. Organisations have an important role to play in recognising transferable skills, creating opportunities and ensuring people are supported throughout their careers.
Chief Executive of GBE-N, Simon Roddy, said
“The UK’s future energy security will depend on people with the skills, commitment and sense of purpose to deliver complex programmes safely and successfully.
Members of the Armed Forces community have spent their careers serving the nation. As we build the national capability needed to deliver new nuclear projects across the UK, we want to ensure talented individuals can continue that contribution in new and meaningful ways.”
Supporting the Armed Forces community is not only about recruitment. It is also about creating an inclusive workplace where veterans, reservists and military families can succeed.
Chief People Officer of GBE-N, Rachel Welch, said
“People perform at their best when they feel valued, supported and able to bring their whole selves to work.
The Armed Forces community contributes a huge range of skills, experiences and perspectives that enrich workplaces and strengthen teams. We’re proud that this award recognises our commitment to supporting that community as we continue to grow.”
Receiving the Bronze Award is an important milestone, but it is just the beginning. As GBE-N develops, we will continue exploring ways to strengthen our support for the Armed Forces community and ensure talented people can play a role in delivering one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes.”
