Gary Neville has had his say on Manchester United potentially signing Wolves star Matheus Cunha for £62.5million.
It was revealed on Monday that the Red Devils had emerged as front-runners in the race to sign the Brazilian forward.
However, they would still be required to activate his release clause but are hopeful of having terms in place by next month while they still have headroom under Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Mail Sport previously revealed that Newcastle United were the main competitors for Cunha’s signature, as they were keen to utilise him on the left of their attack.
But the 25-year old looks to have been swayed by the prospect of playing a pivotal role in Ruben Amorim’s squad revamp.
Now, former Manchester United star Neville has given his verdict after noting that they ‘desperate’ for attacking players following a poor season.

Wolves’ Brazilian star has been linked with a number of Premier League sides and has a £62.5million release clause
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: ‘They’re desperate in that position, he would suit the system.
‘They’ve let Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford go, they’re playing with Garnacho at the moment but that leaves them lopsided.
‘They need someone who can beat players, someone who is equally as good at running through the middle with the ball.
‘They need to score goals, Manchester United’.
Neville’s comments come with United having scored just 38 goals in 34 league games so far this season, leaving them languishing in 14th in the Premier League.
While they did score five goals in midweek to achieve an astonishing comeback against Lyon in the Europa League, they have struggled to score consistently.
Indeed, they lost 1-0 at home to Cunha’s current employers on Sunday – a game in which they managed just two shots on target.

Although attentions are now understandably turning to European competition with a Europa League semi-final to come, United must be better in attack.
That is particularly the case with a two-legged semi-final tie against Athletic Club to come in the competition.
The Spanish side will also have the extra motivation of wanting to advance to a final that will be played in their home city of Bilbao on May 21.
Before the first leg of that tie sees them travel to the Basque Country, United are in action against Bournemouth on Sunday.
