Rory McIlroy was heard telling himself that he’s ‘so bad at golf’ after a costly mistake all but ended his chances of winning the Scottish Open on Sunday.
The back-to-back Masters champion and world No 2 led the tournament after 36 holes but fell six shots behind the leaders in a disappointing third round, before bringing himself back into contention on the fourth and final day.
Yet after moving to within two shots of the lead, a disastrous error on the 16th hole brought McIlroy’s hopes of victory crashing down – and triggered a hilarious soundbite from him.
McIlroy pulled his shot left of the green and into the fescue from the fairway, before he was caught on a hot mic saying painfully: ‘Oh my god, I’m so bad at golf!’
His self-deprecating outburst has gone viral on social media, with fans joking that the Northern Irishman is ‘one of us’ after his relatable reaction.

‘Aren’t we all, Rory. Aren’t we all,’ one user wrote.
Another put: ‘Just like me fr’.
A third said: ‘He’s one of us!’
While a fourth quipped: ‘THERE SOME OF US STRUGGLING TO BREAKING 80 OUT HERE!!!!’
McIlroy went on to hit a superb third shot, but he still fell three shots behind then-leader Tom Kim with a bogey.
Despite his brutal self put-down, he will be one of the favorites at next week’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
The 37-year-old will be hoping to add to his tally of six major titles after winning his second consecutive Masters green jacket in April
