On Monday, Paraguay and Germany walked into Boston. One would have had expectation of progressing, the other hope.
Julio Enciso shocked the world when he put the South Americans ahead in the first-half, but all was right again when Kai Havertz equalised in the second.
But that second goal never arrived.
Into extra time we went, and Jonathan Tah thought he’d won it, but for a VAR intervention to rule it out.
When it came it penalties, Kai Havertz missed, Nick Woltemade missed, and Tah missed.
Paraguay missed two chances to win, but eventually delivered.
