Former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized in critical condition, his team says.
“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition,” his spokesperson said in a Sunday statement. “Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani.”
It’s unclear what led Giuliani to be taken to the hospital.
Giuliani had grown close with Donald Trump over the years and was one of the leaders in the push to contest the 2020 election that saw Trump lose to Joe Biden.
Trump released a statement after news of Giuliani’s hospitalization.
“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition. What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
Sunday’s hospitalization is the latest for Giuliani, 81, in recent months. In late August, he was rushed to a hospital after a car wreck in New Hampshire. He had sustained a fractured thoracic vertebra following the crash, as well as multiple lacerations and contusions and injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
He was later released and attended a 9/11 memorial in New York City.
Dashcam video showed Giuliani’s car being hit by 19-year-old Lauren Kemp on I-93 on August 30.
