Former NFL quarterback and college football icon Tim Tebow has sadly announced that his father, Bob, has passed away aged 78 after a battle with Parkinson’s.

The former Heisman Trophy recipient took to social media to confirm the news on Friday morning, penning an emotional message in honor of his late father.

In an Instagram post, Tebow wrote: ‘Heaven ushered in a hero of the faith last night as my Dad was welcomed home! Many will say sorry for your loss but the truth is he’s not lost, we know exactly where he is. He’s home. Forever!

‘I asked him last week what he looked forward to most about Heaven, and he simply said, ‘Jesus.’ He couldn’t wait to see Jesus face to face.

‘Praise God that his wait is over. Death has been swallowed up in victory. He’s healed and whole now. So we don’t mourn as those with no hope. See you soon Dad!’

In an interview with People in 2016, Tebow revealed that his father, Bob, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

After initially relocating with wife Pam to Mindanao, Philippines in 1985, before moving back to Jacksonville to raise their children, Bob returned to the country following his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

Speaking to People, Tebow explained: ‘When you see Dad in a third-world country with hurting people, you’re like, “that’s what he’s meant to do”. It’s his most comfortable place to be in the world.’

Bob Tebow is survived by his wife Pam, five children and eight grandchildren.

Tributes have began pouring in for Tebow’s late further, with the comment section to his Instagram post inundated with warm messages wishing the ex-NFL star well.

Tebow’s post on Instagram included a number of pictures from notable family moments, with one showing Bob holding Tebow’s first-born daughter; Daphne Reign.

In July 2025, the 38-year-old college football icon and his model wife Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters welcomed their first child together.

The couple shared a series of black-and-white photos of themselves in the hospital alongside their new daughter.

The caption read: ‘Our daughter is here! We couldn’t be more grateful for the blessing and gift of this new little life.

‘We’re so grateful to the whole medical team that assisted us in the best way possible during my labor and delivery. From our doctor to our nurses and all the hospital staff — we are so grateful and thankful for you.’
