Former Newcastle co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are looking at a deal to buy West Ham.

Daily Mail Sport understands that PCP Capital Partners, the couple’s investment firm, are exploring opportunities at several clubs, and that has included Tottenham.

But West Ham are now on their radar and exploratory talks have taken place with the Championship club.

‘I think both my husband and I were attracted to building a business where we can take a brand that isn’t doing so well, a club that isn’t performing well, get it on the right road, and bring that forward,’ Staveley told Spear’s Magazine this week.

‘There are very few clubs (where that can) work. If you want to tick every box, there’s actually very few clubs that allow that.’

Staveley and Ghodoussi led the takeover of Newcastle in 2021, putting together a consortium that included the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and the Reuben brothers. Within 18 months the club had qualified for the Champions League, and their work laid the foundations for last year’s Carabao Cup win, the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.

The Reuben brothers, who remain co-owners at Newcastle, are not part of the group looking at West Ham.

West Ham’s ownership group are led by majority shareholder David Sullivan (38.8 per cent), Daniel Kretinsky (27 per cent) and other investors including the Gold Family Trust (25.1 per cent).

Sullivan stepped down as joint-chairman and director earlier this month, ahead of the publication of allegations concerning his personal life.
