Former Manchester City defender Gael Clichy has insisted that he is not concerned about his old side amidst their rotten run of form.
City are on an unprecedented losing run, having suffered defeat in each of their last five matches across all competitions, with their season potentially set to unravel already in the campaign.
The four-in-a-row Premier League champions are set to take on Feyenoord on Tuesday night in the pursuit of a first win since a 1-0 victory over Southampton on October 26.
In that period the Citizens have lost twice to Tottenham – in both the Premier League and Carabao Cup- and been beaten by Sporting in the Champions League, as well suffering defeats by Bournemouth and Brighton in the top-flight.
But despite this record-breaking run of losses for Pep Guardiola in his managerial career, former City full back Clichy has insisted that he is not overly worried about his old team’s winless streak.
‘When I watch this team play I don’t see a team lacking confidence,’ he told Amazon Prime on Tuesday night ahead of the Feyenoord clash.
Manchester City are on a horrid run of form with no wins since Southampton in late October
Former City defender Gael Clichy has however insisted that he is not worried about his old team’s prospects
‘They’re still dominating the opponent, having chances to go even three nil up at times. It’s more matter of time where there will turn the chances into goals and obviously stop the transitions that can hurt them.
‘But I’m not worried. Those players have proved they are equipped to go all the way and get results.
‘I hope tonight will be when everything changes but I don’t see a team lacking confidence.’
While the Citizens are now out of the Carabao Cup, they will at least take solace in the fact that their season is not necessarily over and done with just yet.
With only a third of the season gone, they still have plenty of time to make up the eight points they’ve lost out on to Liverpool.
As such, this weekend’s blockbuster clash has become all the more important, with Anfield playing host to a game with massive implications on the title race.
