Former Premier League title winner Andre Schurrle took to the mountains as he completed the Iceman Challenge again.
Schurrle was capped 57 times by Germany and was a World Cup winner in 2014, but bought the curtain down his career aged just 29 after revealing longer wanted to face the loneliness and endless competition he faced in top-flight football.
The 34-year-old, who appeared for both Chelsea and Fulham during his time in England’s top flight, has now swapped the highs of playing football at the top level to climbing the heights of mountains across Europe.
On Sunday, he shared a post on Instagram revealing he had undertaken the Iceman Challenge, inspired by Dutch extreme athlete and motivational speaker Wim Hof, for the third consecutive year.
The challenge consisted of Schurrle having to trek up a snow-covered mountain without wearing a T-Shirt, in what is meant to be a severe test of participants’ mental and physical strength.
The German wore only shorts, gloves, a beanie hat and hiking boots in below freezing temperatures during his expedition.

Schurrle enjoyed a glittering career and won the World Cup with Germany back in 2014
He posted on Instagram afterwards: ‘Look at us!! What a day! Pushed through the absolute limit!! With my brothers!
‘The coldest I have ever been! Discomfort! Pain! Suffer! Growth!’
In 2023, the ex-midfielder documented his daring journey to the top of the highest mountain in Germany, as he scaled The Zugspitze, which has a peak of just below 3,000 metres above sea level.
Taking on the challenge at 2am, with temperatures below freezing, Schurrle, again, wore a pair of shorts, hiking boots and gloves.
Schurrle ended his career having scored 86 goals in 373 appearances which included spells with Mainz 05, Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund, Fulham and Spartak Moscow.
Meanwhile, his international career ended in 2017, with the forward having netted an impressive 22 times in 57 games.
