A former France international was reportedly asked to leave Anfield during the Champions League showdown between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Arne Slot’s side endured a disappointing defeat over a penalty shootout following a dominant display in front of their own fans.
However, after 12 stunning minutes of high intensity and pressing the Parisians’ leader, Ousmane Dembele, gave the lead for his side and equalised on aggregate following a defensive confusion between Ibrahima Konate and Alisson.
Although Liverpool continued their strong performance in the second half, Slot’s men were unable to find the back of the net after several chances missed by Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
A notable boost that Paris Saint-Germain may have felt was the support of their former player, Jeremy Menez, who was in the Anfield stands, according to ex-Arsenal star Samir Nasri.
Being allegedly kicked out of the stadium in the game’s late stages, Menez missed Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics during the last phase of the match when the Italian saved two penalty shots from Nunez and Curtis Jones.

The ex-France international was reportedly kicked out of the stadium in the 70th minute and missed Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics in the penalty shootout
Menez was a key figure in PSG’s early days under Qatar Sports Investments featuring alongside legends David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic
‘A thought for those who were also kicked out of the stadium,’ said Nasri on French TV channel Canal Plus.
‘Jeremy Menez was at the match, he was asked if he was French. After his answer, they told him to leave the stadium… in the 70th minute no less!’
Menez is mainly remembered for his fine first touch of the ball combined with versatility, which allowed him to play in each position in the attacking line.
The former Champions League star has collected an impressive trophy room, playing in numerous top European clubs, such as AC Milan, AS Roma, PSG and Monaco.
He made 110 appearances for the Ligue 1 title holders, scoring 19 goals and adding 37 assists.
After several seasons spent in Reggio Calabria in Italian Serie B, the forward moved to Bari, where he ultimately retired in May 2024.
Mendez earned 24 caps for the French national team between 2010 and 2013, playing a strong role in Laurent Blanc’s squad during the Euro 2012.
