An ex-Bayern Munich star has urged his former side not to offer Harry Kane a new contract, despite the England captain already scoring 19 goals this season.
Many have said Kane, 32, is in the form of his life at Bayern Munich, having netted 19 times in 11 games for the German side as he bids to win more trophies in his career.
Kane joined Bayern in summer 2023 as he looked to end his career-long team trophy drought, and won the Bundesliga and German Super Cup in the last few months to finally do just that.
He is hoping to achieve more this year, however, and his form also comes at a good time for England ahead of the World Cup this summer.
There has recently been talk that Kane could be tempted by a move back to the Premier League as his contract runs down, but he himself has suggested he is happy in Germany and would be open to extending his stay past 2027, which is when his current deal expires.
That, though, would be the wrong call from Bayern, according to a club legend. Dietmar Hamann, who played 143 times for the German giants, has suggested his former side should not be taking action right now.

Dietmar Hamann has said it would be ‘madness’ to extend the England captain’s contract now
‘That would be madness,’ Hamann said via The Sun. He’ll be 34 when the contract expires.
‘You can’t extend a contract that still has 20 months to run. It would be madness.”
‘At the European Championship, England won their games when Kane came off. Whether he scores against the best teams like Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal remains to be seen.”
German publication BILD have reported that Kane has a secret £56.7m release clause that can be activated if the striker expresses his intention to leave by the end of the January transfer window.
But Kane has played down the chances of returning to the Premier League when asked about his future.
In a post-game interview last month, he said: ‘I’m really happy here at Bayern. I have two years left on my contract. And to be honest, I’m enjoying every minute.
‘I enjoy playing here in front of the fans. I enjoy the team, the coach. So that’s not on my mind at all. I’m just looking forward to this season and hope we’ll be successful.’
Tottenham manager Frank had said: ‘There’s a lot of Tottenham fans — including myself — who would like to see Kane back. He’s a top player.
Forward Kane has already scored 19 club goals this season and is in sensational form
‘I don’t think he will do it right now. He was top scorer last year and won the championship. He’s doing fantastic.
‘I don’t know what he’s thinking. I’m a traveller, I like to travel, I like to explore things as well. He was here for many years, so why not enjoy Bayern a little bit more?
‘But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.’
And when asked about the issue, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl told BILD: ‘He’s old enough to make his own decisions.
‘Whether clause or no clause, whatever – if he says, “I want to make a decision,” then he’ll make it, as he showed at Tottenham.
Bayern also deny the existence of a release clause in the Kane’s contract.
