Former Balmain Tigers star turned broadcaster Joel Caine has been supported by footy fans after announcing he’s taking a break from his radio commitments as he battles a mental health problem.

The Sports Entertainment Network presenter broke the news on X with a raw reveal about his struggles.

‘Hey Rock solids, just want to be upfront and honest,’ Caine wrote.

‘We aren’t robots. My turn right now. Struggling. Never thought it would be me, but it is.

‘Anyone feeling like me, I’m sending you a BIG CUDDLE.

‘I’m good but need some time. Back soon on @GetEmOnside_SB & @JoelFletchSEN.’

The Wests Tigers legend’s announcement was met with messages of support from fans.

‘Head up, mate. Plenty of people ready to walk with you. The tide will turn, mate. Take care,’ one wrote.

‘Take care, mate. Remember the important things in life – family, friends and smiling. Things are never as bad as they seem,’ another said.

‘All the best, mate. You’ve got a great family and friends to support you through this,’ a third added.

‘Everyone deserves peace and happiness. Hope you find yours, mate,’ another wrote.

Caine played 97 matches across his NRL career, with 94 of them for either Balmain or the Wests Tigers.

He then became a broadcaster and later worked extensively on Channel Nine as the face of Sportsbet.

The 47-year-old has called football on 2GB Radio for the Continuous Call Team and has recently been presenting a football program on SEN with Roosters great Bryan Fletcher.

Caine will step back from his commitment to hosting The Run Home with Joel and Fletch.

‘Joel is a much-loved on- and off-air figure on the SEN 1170am and SENQ 693am airwaves,’ the network’s CEO Craig Hutchison said in a statement.

‘He has made the strong decision to focus on his health for a period of time, and we respect the courage and honesty it takes to speak up, seek support and take a break.

‘We’ll continue to work with our mate Joel to support him throughout this period.’
