Kane Evans has revealed his mother Jeannette has finished her radiotherapy treatment by posting a heartwarming video of her ringing a hospital ‘victory’ bell.

Evans, who recently became the first male rugby league player to come out as gay in 30 years, has shared the exciting news on Instagram.

‘My beautiful mum got to ring the bell today for her radio therapy treatment being over,’ Evans wrote.

‘I find it hard knowing the the battle is done but the war may not be over.’

The 34-year-old’s post was coupled with footage of Jeannette ringing the bell, while thanking the medical professionals who made the milestone possible.

‘I used to think life was wins and losses but now I realise it’s lessons and blessings,’ Evans continued.

‘Everything we go through we learn and each day to go again is a blessing. I love ya mum,’ Evans added.

Jeannette can be heard on the clip saying, ‘Thank you girls, thank you so much,’ as she speaks to her medical team.

‘I tell you what, you feel like very old souls. Your bedside manners… nothing but number one.

‘Thank you again. Let’s hope we don’t meet again, but otherwise yep, thank you.’

Evans made headlines last week when he revealed his sexuality in an emotional interview with James Bracey on Channel Nine.

The admission followed him revealing he has struggled with homelessness since his first-grade playing career ended.

‘I had three goals in life: to play NRL, to buy my parents a house, and then I wanted to top myself,’ Evans said.

‘Because I was living in denial, from a young age I know that I’m gay but I went down every other avenue to build up these walls to be someone to escape who I am.

‘I still can’t believe I’m here talking to you, this is definitely my worst nightmare, but I know if I surrender, it’s the start to a new life.’

The former Sydney Roosters star has experienced a difficult life up to this point, which has also seen him go through addiction struggles.

‘I’ve carried (hiding my sexuality) around my whole life,’ he said.

‘I’m here today to show people that you don’t have to live like that. Even now I feel a bit more free, just by saying it out loud, I’ve brought it to the light.’
