- Souths star was stopped by officers on August 9
NRL star Brandon Smith has been charged with allegedly supplying drugs and a betting offence after he was questioned by police at Gold Coast Airport earlier this month.
The Bunnies forward was released without charge after officers stopped him on August 9 as he arrived in Queensland to play a match with his South Sydney teammates.
‘A 29-year-old man has been issued with a Summons by Queensland Police on August 20 for supplying dangerous drugs and using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting,’ a Queensland Police spokesman said.
‘The man is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 18 September.
‘Investigations by detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group, Taskforce Maxima, South Eastern Region are continuing.’

The 29-year-old’s season has been almost completely wiped out by injury
Soon after Smith was questioned at the airport, South Sydney CEO Blake Solly said the player was with teammates that evening at a Broadbeach hotel, but gave no details about what happened with police.
Smith made the switch from the Roosters to their arch rivals earlier this year but has only played a handful of games due to injury.
