  • Interaction between the pair unfolded at Sydney Airport

NRL great turned media identity Aaron Woods has revealed how he shocked Hollywood star Matt Damon with some classic Aussie slang after the pair crossed paths at Sydney Airport on Monday.

Woods, 35, was heading to Melbourne to film an episode of Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters when he spotted Damon waiting for a commercial flight to Ballina en route to tourist hotspot Byron Bay.

Speaking on Triple M Breakfast, Woods recalled the hilarious interaction.

‘I did a double take after seeing Matt Damon in a flanno [flannelette shirt],’ the former representative prop said.

‘He was with a big unit [security guard] and a lady … I turned to him and said, “How ya going, bud? How was the races?”

‘I knew he was at Rosehill [last Saturday for the 70th staging of the Golden Slipper].

NRL journeyman turned media identity Aaron Woods has revealed how he shocked Hollywood star Matt Damon with some unique Aussie slang after the pair crossed paths at Sydney Airport

‘He said it was good…  but he lost a lot of money.

‘So I said, “Oh yeah, you did your a**e?”‘

The Good Will Hunting star was confused by Woods’ unique choice of words, politely asking: ‘I did my a**e?

Woods explained that the saying refers to losing a lot of money.

He then asked Damon ‘about the good women in Byron Bay’ with the actor’s wife Luciana Barroso just metres away.

Funnyman Woods declared Damon was a ‘good sport about it’, with co-host Beau Ryan in stitches at the interaction.

After making his NRL debut with the Wests Tigers in 2011, Woods went on to play 270 first-grade games for five clubs.

He also represented Australia in 17 Tests and played 14 Origin games for the NSW Blues before hanging up his boots in 2024.

Woods has since carved out an impressive media career on radio and TV.
