Footy fans turn on Channel Seven star after she blasted some of the AFL’s biggest names for dropping the F-bomb on TV

Footy fans have hit out at Caroline Wilson after the Channel Seven star told the AFL to punish stars who drop the F-word during interviews on national television.

Collingwood’s Nick Daicos and coach Craig McRae swore on Seven’s national broadcast following Thursday night’s win against the Crows.

Hawks star Mabior Chol followed up by saying the F-bomb three times after Hawthorn edged the Giants on Saturday.

Wilson was surprised by the casual use of swearwords on TV and was stunned that the AFL hadn’t stepped in.

‘Since when did it become acceptable to use the F-word on national television after a prime time footy broadcast?’ she said on Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters.

‘I don’t care if people think I’m a wowser after the brilliant performances of Collingwood and Hawthorn over the weekend.

‘But the language of some of their group after the game… that was so out of character for Nick Daicos and it hardly felt off the cuff.

‘Craig McRae felt almost deliberate. I don’t want to make light at all, or seem glib, about the Izak Rankine scandal but it almost felt like Collingwood had their own F-word theme going into that game.

‘And Mabior went with his three times.

‘But most disappointing and amazing is that the AFL hasn’t batted an eyelid. Surely swearing like that on a national broadcast would have at least prompted a phone call from either head office or even the Seven Network, reminding McRae, Daicos and Chol that swearing like that is just lowering the standards for everyone.’

Judging by the reaction on social media, it seems that many footy fans don’t agree with Wilson’s take.

‘More of it please. Shows they are human,’ posted one X user.

‘Who cares if they swear, Caro,’ replied another.

‘Are people actually offended by this?’ said a third.

‘Who cares! F**king cry me a river Caro. Seriously the players and coaches aren’t robots they showed some character and passion,’ replied another.

Former AFL star and social media giant Dan Gorringe didn’t mind the use of swear words, either.

‘The game’s f**king back and it’s f**king awesome,’ he said on social media.

‘Chol dropping three F**k-bombs on national television and saying sorry after the third is awesome.’

Wilson said she’s not trying to get anyone involved in the swearing in trouble, but rather just pointing out what is accepted on TV.

‘I’m not condemning any of them but it amazes me that the AFL seems to not even care,’ she said.

‘I don’t think we can let it pass by without making a comment because if that’s the sort of standards we’re working towards now then our standards have dropped.

‘Most people I spoke to didn’t seem to really know about it, so that’s how nondescript it was.’
