The Sherrone Moore scandal has taken another dramatic twist, with five women coming forward with claims about awkward exchanges with the now scandalized former Michigan coach.
Married father-of-three Moore, 39, was taken into custody in December after allegedly entering a woman’s apartment, confronting her and threatening to kill himself. Police records show it was the home of his executive assistant Paige Shiver, hours after Michigan had fired him as head coach for an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a staff member.
He was charged with breaking and entering, home invasion and stalking, and spent two nights in jail before he was granted a $25,000 bond and released. If convicted on all counts, Moore could face up to six years behind bars. He has pleaded not guilty.
The latest round of claims in The Athletic from women, all anonymously, who allegedly encountered Moore do not accuse him of anything illegal but span across five years and paint him as acting erratically in the days before his firing.
One claims Moore was sending her direct messages on social media on November 1, the day his team beat Purdue 21-16. She thought it was a fake account at first.
The Athletic adds that three of the women work in sports media and that another had mutual friends with him.

He would reportedly often respond to the women who came forward’s Instagram stories with fire emojis or clapping hands, or ask ‘How did we start following each other’ when it had been him who made that first move.
Another cringeworthy exchange claims that Moore offered to fly a woman to Michigan to see him.
When she reportedly asked him on if she would have to be ‘holed up in some hotel’, he is claimed to have replied: ‘I guess we will have to see ! I would say yes but you would also have a driver haha. We will go into that detail later.’
The report adds that Moore would sob in staff meetings and at other times lash out at his coaches in the days before his tenure as head coach came crashing down.
Ellen Michaels, the lawyer who is now representing Moore in response to the criminal charges he is facing, told The Athletic: ‘Sherrone Moore denies any criminal wrongdoing.
‘There is no history of domestic violence, no prior adjudication supporting claims of dangerous conduct, and no judicial determination validating these allegations. This matter will be decided in court based on evidence and due process, not speculation.’
Michaels has also been contacted by the Daily Mail and offered the chance to add further comment on The Athletic’s reporting. Moore himself has not spoken publicly since his arrest. He was pictured in public alongside his wife Kelli after his release on bail and she is believed to be standing by him.
On Sunday, Michigan’s offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey revealed that he has quit the program to join Missouri, beginning the anticipated exodus from the football team in the wake of the Moore scandal.

The Wolverines, who finished the season 9–3, will be led into the bowl game by interim head coach Biff Poggi.
‘I could not be happier to have the opportunity to work with [Tigers head coach] Eli Drinkwitz in Columbia,’ Lindsey said in a statement released by Missouri on Sunday.
