Tony Modra has been pictured for the first time since his freak truck accident that almost claimed his life.
The former Adelaide and Fremantle star posted on Instagram, thanking the ambulance service and hospital that ‘put me back together again.’
He posted two pictures in a slideshow, one with his family all beaming with smiles, while the other showed him surrounded by his love ones while he was in the ICU.
Along with the images he wrote, ‘SA Ambulance Service, South Coast District Hospital & Flinders Medical Centre saved my life, put me back together with a few titanium plates, got me home.
‘I’m getting out and about a bit now, and slowly catching up on everything I missed over the last month.
‘I’m so humbled to learn how many people were cheering these incredible medical teams on… and our family too. I’ll never be able to thank everyone enough.’

Modra also shared a heartwrenching picture of himself surrounded by his family in the ICU
Last month the AFL great was left fighting for his life after the cattle truck he was driving collided with a tree outside Victor Harbor.
Modra was then rushed to Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition.
His 14-year-old son played a key role in getting Modra the aid he needed after the horror incident.
Modra’s wife Erica said she was on the phone to the footy icon when the crash occurred.
She said their 14-year-old son immediately called triple-0 and used the Find My Phone app to pinpoint Modra’s location and relay it to emergency services.
Erica said Modra, after his truck was struck by the branch, had been able to pull over to avoid anyone else being caught up in the chaos.
The 57-year-old required multiple surgeries to fix facial fractures caused by the branch when it collided with his car.
According to reports these surgeries included complex procedures to repair the effects of the crash on his jaw, eye socket and cheek.
There was good news just under a month after his crash as Modra was discharged from hospital earlier in July.

In a statement by Modra via the Adelaide at the time, he said, ”Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness and care shown to me and my family.
‘I have left hospital to continue my recovery at home and only now starting to wrap my head around the incredible amount of support and well wishes that have come our way.
‘I remain deeply grateful to the members of the public who gave me vital first aid until professional help arrived, to others who offered reassurance, and to the emergency responders, medical staff and specialists who have cared for me since the accident.
‘My progress has been encouraging and we kindly ask that our privacy continues to be respected as we focus on my rehabilitation. Thank you.’
While recovering in hospital, he recorded a voice message for AFL fans ahead of the Showdown clash between his beloved Crows and arch rivals Port Adelaide Power.
‘G’day everybody, I’m really looking forward to watching tonight’s Showdown,’ Modra said.
‘I’ve heard I’ve had a lot of support, not just Crows fans but Port fans as well, so I’d just like to thank everybody.
‘Hope everyone has a great night tonight, looking forward to the friendly banter and the two teams putting on a great show for Australia.
‘Enjoy the game and make sure you drive home safe.’
And now Modra has finally been able to return home and enjoy his time with his family.
