Jockey Kristy Bennett has been rushed to hospital and placed in an induced coma after a dreadful fall on Tuesday morning.
The 29-year-old’s horse went down after she had passed the post during trials on the Gold Coast.
Bennett suffered a brain bleed in the incident, which saw an intensive care ambulance attend the scene.
The popular West Australian rider was reportedly unconscious but breathing when she was treated by paramedics.
Bennett had surgery for the brain bleed at Southport University Hospital.
‘Former WA jockey Kristy Bennett, now riding in QLD has had a fall at Gold Coast trials. As soon as we hear more we will let everyone know updated details. Thoughts and prayers are with Kristy,’ the Australian Jockeys Association said in a statement online.

Bennett recently moved from Western Australia to Queensland and had been riding trackwork for top trainer Tony Gollan.
She had her first race in the Sunshine State in the outback town of Emerald in May.
Bennett has ridden 187 winners from 2963 starts, and has also clocked up 652 places in her career so far.
She began work as a professional jockey in 2018 and her first winner was Chinetti, which was trained by Paul Jordan.
