Concerned World Cup fans were relieved to discover that what they believed to be an uncomfortable incident for singer Shakira was in fact a sweet family moment.

The Colombian star, 49, made a surprise appearance at Dallas Stadium on Monday to watch Lionel Messi and Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria in Group J.

The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker, who recorded the official anthem of the 2026 World Cup with rapper Burna Boy, was captured soaking in the action from a luxury VIP suite at the stadium, which is usually home to the Dallas Cowboys.

The songstress received a warm reception as fans inside the ground went wild when she was shown on the big screen.

However, some fans watching back home were left stunned as one moment involving the singer sparked concern on social media.

As Shakira was shown on the broadcast, the person in the seat to her left leaned over, wrapped their arm around her and kissed her on the cheek.

Fans on social media were shocked at the moment with some claiming Shakira appeared reluctant to lean in and uncomfortable.

‘Is Shakira ok?’ one fan account questioned on X alongside a clip of the moment.

‘Who’s this guy trying to force a kiss on Shakira,’ another asked.

However, they had no cause to be concerned as the admirer was in fact one of Shakira’s sons merely showing affection to his famous mother.

The Waka Waka singer was joined by her two sons – Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11 – whom she shares with her ex-partner, former Barcelona and Spain soccer star Gerard Pique.

Milan was wearing a black polo top and a white cap, which concealed his face, leading to the confusion among fans.

He animatedly leaned over and appeared to slightly pull on his mom’s long locks, which may have caused the uncomfortable reaction from Shakira.

Shakira welcomed both her sons in Barcelona, while living in the Spanish city for her ex-partner’s soccer career.

She and Pique, who met on the set of the music video for Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, split in June 2022 following 11 years of dating.

Following the news of their breakup, it was rumored that the soccer player had been unfaithful. He allegedly had an affair with now-girlfriend Clara Chia Marti, who he began dating shortly after the split.

Shakira released a viral diss track, ‘BZRP Music Sessions #53,’ in January 2023 which heavily alluded to the betrayal.

Following their separation, the former couple reached a custody agreement and Shakira and her two sons relocated to Miami.

While Pique, who retired from soccer in November 2022 at the age of 35, is not with the Spanish team at the World Cup, Shakira has taken center stage at the tournament.

She officially kickstarted the 2026 tournament, performing at the opening ceremony in Mexico City on June 11.

Shakira and Burna Boy performed Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to headline the opening ceremony.

In a spectacle of color and sound, hundreds of dancers joined the Colombian singer, who turned heads in a neon yellow bodysuit and white miniskirts, on the stage at the center of the field.

Thousands of fans went wild inside the Azteca as Shakira shimmied her hips amid the sea of backup dancers.

She lit up the arena with her signature dance moves and trademark high-energy as she was joined by a traditional Mexican mariachi band.

A massive gold replica of the World Cup trophy erupted from the ground at the center of the stage as the stream of dancers in brightly colored outfits burst out alongside the statue.

The jam-packed show also featured performances from Alejandro Fernandez, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin , Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, Mana and Tyla – all of whom featured on the first-ever FIFA World Cup album.
