The family of Aussie jockey Kristy Bennett have revealed she remains unconscious and faces ‘years’ of recovery after she was seriously hurt in a horrific fall.

Bennett, 29, has gone through hell over the last two weeks after her horse hit the turf during trials on the Gold Coast.

The West Australian suffered a brain bleed in the incident, which saw an intensive care ambulance attend the scene.

She has undergone surgery and has been receiving treatment from medical professionals at Southport University Hospital.

But a new family statement, passed on by the Australian Jockeys Association, has provided an update on Bennett’s condition.

‘On behalf of Bella and Irene Bennett, we have an update on Kristy Bennett’s condition from her specialists,’ the statement said.

‘Kristy remains unconscious after suffering traumatic brain injuries and vertebrae fractures.

‘She remains unconscious and her rehab could take years to complete.

‘Going forward, we won’t have any updates for some time while the amazing doctors and nurses do their incredible work providing Kristy with the best possible care.

‘On behalf of our family and Kristy we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone in Queensland and Western Australia for their unwavering love.’

Horse racing fans have since taken to social media to send the hoop and her family their best wishes.

‘So sad, love and strength to the Bennetts xo,’ one person wrote.

‘Horrendous injuries – I can only offer my prayers and hope,’ another added.

‘That’s sad news, wishing her all the best xxx,’ a third said.

Bennett recently moved from Western Australia to Queensland and had been riding trackwork for top trainer Tony Gollan.

She had her first race in the Sunshine State in the outback town of Emerald in May.

Bennett has ridden 187 winners from 2,963 starts and has also clocked up 652 places in her career so far.

She began work as a professional jockey in 2018, and her first winner was Chinetti, which was trained by Paul Jordan.
