  • Was celebrating late comeback that fell short

Brisbane Broncos half Ezra Mam has courted controversy again, this time for a sexual gesture during his side’s shock loss to Hull KR this morning AEDT.

Hull KR hung on to beat Brisbane and win their maiden World Club Challenge 30-24 after thwarting a late comeback by the visitors in freezing conditions.

The Broncos scored three tries in five minutes and had their chances to snatch the game late.

After one of the late tries, Mam was caught on camera making a sexual gesture to the crowd, although ultimately he had nothing to celebrate.

Mam was charged in late 2024 after returning a positive roadside drug test for cocaine while driving in Brisbane.

Police alleged he was driving with an illicit substance in his system, and he was subsequently stood down by the Brisbane Broncos.

Mam pleaded guilty in court, was fined, and had his driver’s licence disqualified.

The Broncos imposed internal disciplinary measures, and the NRL reviewed the matter under its integrity policy before clearing him to return following the completion of required sanctions and programs.

Like many of the rusty premiers, Mam had a game to forget, with plenty of footy fans calling him out on social media.

‘When’s Ezra Mam getting off the plane then?’ one asked.

‘Ezra Mam is having a stinker,’ posted another.

‘Another Ezra mam brain explosion,’ lamented another.

The Robins deserved their victory and the title of the planet’s greatest club rugby league side after dominating for the majority of the clash at Hull’s MKM Stadium.

It was a triumph for the ages for Robins coach Willie Peters whose team had been written off before the match by pundits in Australia.

Peters and his team have now won the quadruple – the Super League major and minor premiership, the Challenge Cup title and the World Club Challenge.

It was five tries each with Broncos captain Adam Reynolds landing just two from five attempts, his last two misses proving crucial.

The Robins led 30-4 in the 57th minute after Peta Hiku followed a Tyrone May grubber.

The Broncos, famous for their three comeback wins in the finals series last year to win the NRL title, clicked into gear but ultimately fell just short.
