Former Syracuse quarterback Rex Culpepper has died at the age of 28, his fiancee announced on Monday.
Culpepper, the son of ex-NFL star Brad Culpepper, only popped the question to partner Savanna Morgan last month. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Savanna made the heartbreaking announcement on Instagram, while paying tribute to her ‘soulmate.’
‘No one expects to meet the love of your life and lose them in only 6 short years after meeting,’ she wrote. ‘Rex didn’t always believe in soulmates but towards the end he told me that he didn’t realize what having a soulmate felt like until we felt like extensions of each other.’
Culpepper made 24 appearances for the Syracuse Orange over the course of his college career, completing 139 passes for 11 touchdowns, after primarily serving as a backup quarterback.
Back in March 2018, the ex-Plant High School signal caller announced publicly that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer, before celebrating being given the all-clear three months later.
