Pride of Merseyside
It doesn’t get any bigger than this on Merseyside.
It’s a day when the city of Liverpool is split. Families don different colours in the same house, friends become enemies, and the whole city locks in on football.
It’s Everton vs Liverpool. Blue vs Red. David Moyes vs Arne Slot.
And there is more than just pride on the line in this match. Both Everton and Liverpool are in the hunt for not only European football, but the Champions League. Who would have thought the Toffees would have been fighting for that at the start of the season?
While it’s been a rancid season for the Reds, with the latest punch to the gut being landed by PSG in midweek, they still sit in fifth – the final Champions League spot – while Everton are five points behind them in eighth.
If Everton win, they go within a place and two points of their bitter rivals. But if Liverpool win, they go seven clear of Chelsea in the race for the top five. There is so much at stake.
Oh, and also, there is just the small matter that this is the very first Merseyside derby at the shiny new Hill Dickinson Stadium. No biggie, eh?
We also have two other 2pm Premier League kick-offs we will be updating you on throughout the afternoon, but our main focus will be on Merseyside.
Get yourself a cuppa, sink into the sofa, and get ready for the ride…it’s going to be one hell of one.
Let’s get this show on the road then, shall we?
