- The Fresno State Bulldogs played the Northern Illinois Huskies on Monday
ESPN made a hilarious error on Monday as they butchered the nickname of a college football team.
The Fresno State Bulldogs took on Northern Illinois Huskies in the Idaho Potato Bowl, with the game broadcast on the Worldwide Leader.
But unfortunately for Fresno State, they were repeatedly referred to as the ‘Bulldongs’ throughout the game by ESPN’s graphics.
The incorrect name was shown on the screen several times, including after a 90-yard touchdown drive for Fresno State.
A fan also pointed out that ‘Bulldongs’ was written in a graphic shown at the end of the first quarter.
After the slew of errors was publicized by Awful Announcing on X, the mistake unsurprisingly took off on social media.
The ‘Bulldongs’ mistake was repeated by ESPN several times throughout the game
Ultimately, Fresno State lost the game 28-20 in double overtime after leading 13-3
‘Top 3 bowl season moment thus far,’ one fan joked.
‘I’m amazed at how they’re committed to not fixing the mistake,’ another said.
‘I look at this over and over and still can’t believe it,’ a third fan added.
Incredibly, Fresno State’s nickname was even briefly changed on their Wikipedia page, though it has now been switched back to the correct name.
It was ultimately a rough day for Fresno State in more ways than one as they lost 28-20 in double overtime – after holding a 13-3 lead in the first half.
NIU quarterback Dane Pardridge connected with George Dimopoulos for a 25-yard go-ahead touchdown in the second overtime before the Huskies held their opponents scoreless afterwards.
Fresno State finished their season 6-7.
