A group of young people in care were treated to a session with renowned motivational speaker Jaz Ampaw-Farr to start a new Jaz-prentices group to help develop their public speaking skills and begin the journey towards changing hearts and minds.

Jaz-prentices will have a year’s coaching and tailored input from Jaz and the Shropshire Virtual School as part of becoming her ‘apprentices’.
They will design and deliver roadshows to school teams to help them understand care experience and how schools can support our young people best.
This session was followed by a Shropshire Virtual School Corporate Parenting event at The Guildhall in Shrewsbury, with one of the few book signing events nationally to launch Jaz’s new book ‘Because of You, This is Me’. The Virtual School are the education champions in the local authority for children and young people in care to Shropshire.
Attendees included a cross section of corporate parents from members, health, schools, social care and local authority colleagues – and they got to view Jaz’s film which has just won the Programmer’s Choice Award at this year’s Diversity in Cannes Film Festival.
The aim was for Corporate Parents to hear about care experience from Jaz and think about what sort of Corporate Parent we want to be.
Councillor Andy Hall, portfolio holder for children and education, said:
“It was an amazing Corporate Parenting event. Jaz was just as amazing in person as she is in her videos. Congratulations to the team for a job well done.”
