Dani Gibson spearheaded a clinical bowling display as England beat T20 world champions New Zealand by seven wickets to secure a 2-1 series success.

The White Ferns were bowled out for just 80 on a sweltering day in Hove after winning the toss and opting to bat on a favourable pitch.

All-rounder Gibson ripped through the middle order with career-best figures of three for 14, removing New Zealand captain Melie Kerr and Sophie Devine for five and a duck respectively in the seventh over and later dismissing Maddy Green for 14.

England skipper Charlie Dean also claimed three wickets, while player of the series Linsey Smith took two for 15.

Jess Kerr top-scored for the White Ferns with 20 as only three of her side’s players reached double figures.

England made relatively light work of the chase and wrapped up victory with 37 balls to spare.

Sophia Dunkley’s 22 off 21 balls got the hosts off to a positive start before Heather Knight fell for 18 after being caught at backward point following a reverse sweep off Kerr.

Maia Bouchier’s unbeaten 19 put them within striking distance before Freya Kemp hit the winning run off Bree Illing.

Player of the match Gibson told Sky Sports: “It feels great. I’ve had a bit of time out so to come back in and make an impact feels really nice.

“I want to be an all-rounder and perform in all three facets of the game for this team so to perform with the ball is amazing, I’m just so happy to be back out there.

“I was looking to hit a hard length, mix up my pace. It was a really good all-round performance from everyone, spinners and seamers.”

England have now won seven consecutive T20 series against New Zealand, dating back to February 2012.

Charlotte Edwards’ side face three T20 internationals against India, followed by warm-up matches against Australia and India ahead of the T20 World Cup.

England begin the home tournament against Sri Lanka on Friday, June 12 at Edgbaston.
