Emma Raducanu emerged for a final practice session before Wimbledon begins – in what felt like a late fitness test to see whether the British No 1 is ready to handle the slog of SW19.

Raducanu, seeded 30th, is scheduled to face Croatian world No 61 Antonia Ruzic first on No 1 Court on Monday afternoon.

She was supposed to hold a pre-Wimbledon press conference on Saturday but postponed those media duties after cutting short her earlier practice session on that same day.

The Brit was sporting heavy strapping on her right ankle and lower shin after aggravating a pre-existing injury during her recent run to the Queen’s final.

Raducanu was wearing the same protection as she took to the Aorangi Park practice courts on Sunday morning for an 11am hitting session.

While she was appearing to strike the ball well, her movement was not entirely convincing at times, though there was no need to overexert herself in practice. Her coach, Andrew Richardson, was by her side throughout.

Raducanu lost to Ruzic in Dubai in February in their only meeting to date, though the Brit was suffering from a chest infection at the time and so her Wimbledon opener remains favourable on paper.
