Emiliano Martinez has been left out of the Aston Villa squad to face Crystal Palace amid interest from Manchester United.
There is a possibility of United winger Jadon Sancho being included as part of the deal.
United and Villa also both have interest in Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Sancho is being floated in the talks as the two clubs try to find a solution on valuations.
United have also made an improved offer for Lammens.
Martinez has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa throughout the transfer window.

Martinez, who has been at Villa since 2020, has been left out of the squad with summer signing Marco Bizot starting, while youngster Sam Proctor is on the bench.
When asked about Martinez’s absence, Emery repeated the name of his replacement, Bizot, three times before declaring ‘the time is over’.
Martinez turns 33 next week and is closing in on 200 Premier League appearances.
He won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022 and has frequently impressed for Villa.
Bringing in a goalkeeper is a key priority for United given the struggles that Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have endured.
United manager Ruben Amorim is said to have lost faith in Onana, who cost £43m from Ajax in 2023.
Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea and previously had a temporary stint at Borussia Dortmund.
Former United defender Victor Lindelof, whose contract with the club expired this summer, is set to join Villa.
