- Eddie McGuire’s wife consulted a psychic before 2018 season
- Clairvoyant’s prediction turned out to be startlingly accurate
Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has revealed a startling anecdote about a clairvoyant’s prediction involving his beloved Magpies – and how he was horrified as he watched it come true.
The 2018 AFL season saw a remarkable turnaround for Collingwood after the team had been one of the worst teams the league for the preceding three years, finishing 13th, 12th and 12th.
The side had a stunning resurgence, thrilling victories and a heartbreaking grand final loss – which left them to reflect on what might have been.
McGuire has now revealed that a psychic predicted the entire thing to his wife.
‘She didn’t know anything about football or anything,’ McGuire told the BackChat podcast.
‘She said you’re going to have a good year. Carla (McGuire’s wife) said, “What do you mean a good year?” – and she said, “You’re going to play in the grand final”.

A clairvoyant said that Collingwood would make the 2018 AFL grand final, but lose
‘Now, we’d missed the finals for the last three years.’
‘Carla said “do we win?” and she said “no”.
Collingwood went on to defy expectations and deliver one of the most memorable campaigns in recent club history.
The final against West Coast was as dramatic as they come, with the Magpies surging to a 25-point lead in the second quarter – but the Eagles fought back in the dying minutes.
‘In the back of my mind, I started thinking about this clairvoyant,’ said McGuire, reliving the final moments of the match.
‘There’s a shot where Bruz (Brayden Maynard) get blocked, he plays on, doesn’t play on. Goes back. And I’m sitting there going this is just when the clairvoyant has got it right.’
As West Coast star Dom Sheed prepared to kick the winning goal for West Coast, McGuire’s heart was in his mouth.
‘I’m a bit of a pedant for on approaching to goals,’ said McGuire.

Under the leadership of coach Nathan Buckley, Collingwood defied all expectations in 2018
‘He had his head over the ball. I’m watching his hand drop it on. His approach was right. He kicks right through the ball.
‘As soon as it left his boot I knew it was a goal.
‘They cut to the crowd and there’s a shot of me and my boys and I just go [McGuire looks to the sky and sighs].
‘I just go “Oh no, this clairvoyant”.’
