The mother of a college football player who was tragically killed just days before his 21st birthday has paid an emotional tribute to him.

North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University defensive lineman Kelvin Level Broadhurst Jr. was killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday.

Broadhurst Jr. was on a Ducati motorcycle when he lost control on a ramp on Interstate 40 East in Greensboro, North Carolina and hit a guardrail. He was ejected from his motorcycle and died at the scene.

His mom, Latoya Robinson-Lyles, said in a devastating tribute how she’s gone from planning her son’s birthday party to his funeral.

She told WFMY News: ‘I was planning his 21st birthday. His birthday is April 27 so we were planning his birthday for the 25th. It just seems unreal because now I’m having to plan his funeral.

‘He’s always been the most polite, most respectful young man and everybody who came in contact with him loved him. His family is crazy about him. Everybody was just so proud of him.

‘He loved me so much. We talked every day, or text every day. There wasn’t a day when I didn’t speak with my son.

‘Right before the accident, right before, a couple minutes before the accident he text me and then 10 minutes later one of his frat brothers called and said he was in an accident. My heart was just ripped out of my chest.’

More to follow.
