It took longer than both parties would have liked, but Daniel Jones has agreed a lucrative new deal to stay with the Indianapolis Colts.

The quarterback has agreed a two-year deal to remain with the team worth $88million but crucially, could rise to the $100m figure Jones had in mind.

It’s the biggest two-year deal in the history of the NFL and comes after Jones turned down a three-year offer worth the same amount at $33m per season.

Jones, 28, was excellent for the Colts last season and had led the team to an 8-2 record before he tore his Achilles, an injury that derailed the team’s entire season. Without him, they went 0-7 and fell away from the playoffs.

The suggestions are that Jones should be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign in the first week of September.

Last season marked a brilliant resurgence for Jones, who had been cut by the New York Giants the season before with the team, and his own form, seemingly in freefall.

But a fresh start has transformed him and also made a huge impact on his most talented teammates, too.

Wide receiver Alec Pierce agreed a huge new $116million deal to stay at the Colts earlier this week – believed to be slightly less than he’d have been paid at a rival team.

The key factor in him staying with Indianapolis was the presence of Jones. The New England Patriots were among those hoping to tempt Piece away from the Colts.

After not being able to prize him away, they pivoted to Romeo Doubs. The former Green Bay Packers wide reciever signed a four-year, $80m deal to join the Super Bowl runners up as a replacement for the outgoing Stefon Diggs.

Shortly after the Pierce deal was struck, the Colts announced they had traded Michael Pittman Jr., another wide receiver, to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Colts don’t have a first-round pick in next month’s NFL Draft. They traded it away to the New York Jets last year for cornerback Sauce Gardner.
