New funding approach supports innovative, needs-based projects that address division and community development

The International Fund for Ireland (IFI) has launched the Crossing the Threshold strategy to respond to the changing needs of communities. The new approach removes traditional set programmes and replaces them with a flexible, responsive, needs-based funding model.

The strategy builds on established trust and goodwill developed since 1986 while creating opportunities for new partnerships and alternative approaches to peacebuilding.

Priority areas for funding support

The revised funding model is designed to direct support towards areas of greatest need and emerging opportunities. It aims to support projects that address division and contribute to social and economic progress, particularly in communities affected by disadvantage or the legacy of conflict.

It also targets barriers that sustain division, including physical, psychological and structural challenges within communities.

Who can apply

Organisations eligible to apply include those operating on a not-for-profit basis. These include

  • registered charities

  • creativity
  • sharing
  • empowerment

The strategy supports initiatives delivered through a range of sectors, including sport, arts and culture, alongside established best practice models.

Funding is available across Northern Ireland and eligible border counties. The available support is as follows

  • projects in Northern Ireland can apply for between £30,000 and £150,000
  • projects in eligible border counties can apply for between €35,000 and €170,000
