The life of an NFL kicker is often devoid of fame, adulation and record-breaking contracts – but one Dallas Cowboys star is looking to break the mold.

According to ESPN, Cowboys star Brandon Aubrey is looking to become the highest-paid kicker in the league and the franchise, reportedly, agrees that he deserves it.

However, despite the Cowboys offering him a league-high $6.4million-per-season deal, negotiations with the 30-year-old have reportedly hit a stumbling block.

That’s because, according to ESPN, Aubrey’s agent Todd France has requested for the deal to be closer to $10million-per-season, which would smash previous records.

Though the negotiations began last season, the outlet claims that there has been no progression between the two parties.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said: ‘It’s been a journey. We hadn’t been able to get to a point where we can all agree, so it hadn’t gotten done. But we’d love to get him done.’

As it stands, the top kickers in the league – such as Harrison Butker and Jake Elliott – earn roughly $6million-per-season.

Comparatively, top NFL stars – such as quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Josh Allen – can earn up to $60million in just one year, significantly dwarfing a kicker’s pay.

On the field, it’s fair to say that Aubrey is deserving of a boost to his current deal.

During his three years in Dallas, Aubrey has made the Pro Bowl at every opportunity after impressive performances during the regular season.

He also currently holds the NFL record for most field goals from 60 yards or longer – having completed six attempts during his time in the league.

During the 2025 season, Aubrey completed 36 out of his 42 field goal attempts – with his six misses all at attempts which were 50 yards or longer.

As it stands, Aubrey is currently set to become a restricted free agent. However, the Cowboys are likely to place a second-round tender on the star kicker, valued at roughly $5.8million.

Aubrey entered the league as an undrafted free agent meaning that, if the Cowboys put the right-of-first-refusal tender on him, they would not receive any compensation in return, should they choose not to match the offer from another team.
