In the opening weekend of the collegiate baseball season, one player’s 2026 has already come to an end with a shocking and gruesome freak injury.

Boston College and Seton Hall were playing in the ‘Puerto Rico Challenge 2026’ in the city of Ponce on Friday in both team’s first games of the season.

With Seton Hall down 3-2, utility hitter Justin Ford crushed a moonshot of a two-run home run to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead.

After cameras caught the ball flying high and far out of the stadium, the broadcast then cut to Ford lying on the ground.

Ford was seen clutching his left foot as he rolled around on the infield before the trainers ran out.

The replay showed the brutal cause: as Ford rounded the bases, he turned back to his dugout and jumped up to celebrate. When he landed, his left ankle snapped – sending him to the ground.

The official account for Seton Hall baseball posted, ‘Please join us in sending Justin best wishes and a speedy recovery.’

According to NJ.com, Ford was taken to a local hospital but was in ‘good spirits’ and is recovering.

A Seton Hall spokesperson declined to comment about the extent of his injury to the outlet.

Boston College ended up winning the game 6-4 by scoring two runs in the second and one run in the eighth.
