The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) has welcomed the launch of the new Digital Memorial, a national online platform dedicated to commemorating police officers and staff who have died in the line of duty.
Developed through a collaboration between the Police Remembrance Trust and the UK Police Memorial, the Digital Memorial brings together the Police Roll of Honour, National Police Memorial Day resources, personal tributes, educational materials and information relating to the UK Police Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum.
It provides a single national place of remembrance where the stories, service and sacrifice of fallen officers and staff can be preserved and shared with future generations.
The platform includes the names of more than 4,600 officers recorded on the national Police Roll of Honour and reflects a shared commitment across UK policing to ensure those who died in service are remembered in a meaningful and lasting way.
Among those commemorated through the Digital Memorial are CNC officers PC Marcus Bennett and PC Daryl Street.
PC Bennett died in 2025 following a sudden medical episode while on duty. He dedicated his 20-year policing career to the Harwell Operational Policing Unit (OPU), helping to protect some of the UK’s most sensitive nuclear infrastructure while earning a reputation as a highly professional firearms officer, trusted colleague and committed public servant.
Colleagues remember him for his professionalism, reliability and good humour, qualities that earned the respect of all who worked alongside him.
PC Street died in 2021 following a two-vehicle collision on the A66 near Penrith while travelling home from night duty at the Sellafield OPU. His professionalism, commitment and service continue to be remembered with respect by former colleagues and friends.
Assistant Chief Constable Kerry Smith said “The launch of the Digital Memorial ensures officers and staff who died in the line of duty are never forgotten.
“For the CNC, it is an opportunity to remember PCs Bennett and Street, whose professionalism, dedication and commitment to protecting others remain an enduring part of our history.
“Their names now form part of a permanent national record of remembrance, ensuring future generations understand both their contribution and the sacrifices made by those who serve in policing.”
The Civil Nuclear Police Federation added “Every day, colleagues go to work to make a difference, but sadly, not all of them get to return home. Ensuring officers like our own PC Bennett and PC Street are remembered for how they lived and served is important. They were valued colleagues who are dearly missed by many, including their teammates, friends, and loved ones.
“The Digital Memorial will help to preserve their stories and ensure their service is never forgotten. It is also a reminder of the many members of the CNC family we have lost over the years who may not appear on the Roll of Honour but whose contribution to our organisation deserves to be recognised.”
