Any World Cup fans looking to seal a last-minute ticket to Sunday’s final between Spain and Argentina will now have to pay more than $10,000 for the privilege.
As fans and A-listers alike flock to New Jersey for the FIFA showpiece on Sunday, prices have continued to rise ahead of what will be Lionel Messi’s last ever World Cup match.
According to FIFA’s official resale platform on Saturday afternoon, the only remaining tickets for the final will set you back $10,990 – and there’s only a few left to be snapped up.
Perhaps more remarkably, The Sporting Tribune reports that the average get-in price for the final now sits at $18,822.
That eye-watering figure is more than double the previous record for a major sporting event, set by Super Bowl LVIII when the Chiefs took on the 49ers in Las Vegas.
The showdown at MetLife Stadium – temporarily renamed the New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament – will see Messi come up against Lamine Yamal in a clash of the titans to see who lifts the trophy.

Messi and Co are hoping to seal back-to-back titles after winning the tournament in Qatar four years ago, while Spain have not won the World Cup since 2010.
A ticket for the final will also get you a seat for pregame and halftime performances, with Robbie Williams and Post Malone headlining the ‘closing ceremony’ before kickoff.
At halftime, an extended break will allow the likes of Shakira, Madonna, Justin Bieber and BTS to take to the stage, with the show curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
At the end of the match, a new stage will be erected on the pitch to see either Messi or Rodri lift the World Cup for their country.
