Hollywood glamour in the Championship these days is usually only associated with Wrexham but another club got in on the act on Wednesday night.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Sean Bean in the stands at St Mary’s for Southampton’s clash with Sheffield United.

The Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and GoldenEye actor was there to support his beloved Blades, who went down 1-0.

Bean, 66, was wearing a flat cap and a Barbour-style jacket among supporters in the away end who had made the long trip south.

He was pictured shaking hands with a few fellow Blades before the game kicked off but looked stony-faced for much of the contest with his side behind.

A deflected strike by Leo Scienza in the seventh minute proved to be decisive in the end and it was not a vintage day out for Bean or Chris Wilder’s men.

Bean, who remains a prolific actor and recently starred in This City Is Ours and a TV adaptation of Robin Hood, was born and raised on a council estate in Sheffield.

He achieved a scholarship to prestigious acting school RADA in 1981 before embarking on his career.

Bean has never forgotten his roots and has a ‘100 per cent Blade’ tattoo on his shoulder.

He’s been seen at matches in the past but work commitments mean those can now be few and far between.

Sheffield United’s defeat on Wednesday night means they have now lost three matches on the spin including one on penalties against Mansfield Town in the FA Cup.

It doesn’t get any easier for Wilder and Co as they play in-form Ipswich on Saturday and battle their way up the table away from the threat of relegation, with the team currently in 17th place.
