Cameron Young continued to establish himself as a PGA Tour force with a dominant six-shot victory at the Cadillac Championship.

Young has been in outstanding form this season, following Players Championship success with a third-place finish at the Masters, and was untouchable on the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral.

The 28-year-old closed with a four-under round of 68 to maintain his advantage over Scottie Scheffler and showcase why many feel a major breakthrough is around the corner.

His sizeable margin of victory came despite Young calling a penalty on himself on the second hole having caused his ball to move on the fairway – a hole he would par, anyway.

For Scheffler, this was a third consecutive finish as a runner-up having been a shot short of Rory McIlroy at Augusta and then lost a play-off to Matt Fitzpatrick at the RBC Heritage. Adam Scott shot a final round 64 to surge into the top five, while Alex Fitzpatrick finished in a tie for ninth in an encouraging start to his PGA Tour career after earning a card alongside his brother last week.

More than an inch of rain had fallen in the early hours of Sunday morning, leading to a delayed start with final-round tee times originally brought forward due to the threat of storms in Miami.

But Young tamed the course and conditions for another significant success. “When the golf course is difficult, when the conditions are difficult, that tends to make it easier for me mentally,” he said.

On the LPGA Tour, Nelly Korda was in equally imperious form as she went back-to-back with victory at the Riviera Maya Open.

Korda had claimed her third major at last week’s Chevron Championship and was in supreme touch again, making just two bogeys across four rounds – including one at the last, with her win already secure.

Arpichaya Yubol finished second, four shots behind the world No 1.
