There was no ‘Brotherly Love’ in Philadelphia on Monday night when a kid running in the outfield during the Home Run Derby was mercilessly booed after dropping a fly ball.
During the first round of the evening’s competition, St. Louis Cardinals star Jordan Walker hit a pop fly to dead center with six swings remaining.
While this should have ended in a routine catch for one of the teenagers in the outfield shagging balls, it didn’t go as planned.
One kid in a pink T-Mobile t-shirt misjudged the flight of the ball in mid-air and didn’t make a good enough effort to get under it.
Instead, the ball landed roughly two feet away from him. The crowd at Citizens Bank Park didn’t appreciate the effort.
Audible boos were heard on the broadcast as the kid joined many rival players in receiving the negative treatment from the fans.
Fans in Philadelphia booed this kid who horribly missed snagging a fly ball from Jordan Walker
Walker played the spoiler and beat Phillies star Kyle Schwarber in the Home Run Derby final
Walker hit home runs on his final five swings to be the first Cardinal to ever win the event
Among those players was Walker, who reached the final stage of the night to face Philadelphia’s own Kyle Schwarber for the title.
Schwarber smacked 11 home runs to set the pace for Walker in the final round of the evening.
By the time Walker arrived at his final swing of the night, he had hit seven home runs and needed to miraculously hit five more.
Under contest rules, if you hit a home run on your final swing, you continue to swing until you miss a home run. Prior to Walker, no one had hit a home run on their final swing all night.
Despite the relentless boos from the Philly crowd, Walker hit five straight home runs to beat Schwarber 12-11.
He became the first St. Louis Cardinal in history to win the Home Run Derby.
