Michael Selwood, a British influencer known for his boxing and lifestyle content, has died at age 35.
Selwood was found dead at around 5 p.m. local time Sunday, hours after he was reported missing in Tameside, Greater Manchester police said in a statement shared with People.
Police said that Selwood had last been seen Saturday at around 8 p.m. in Dukinfield, England.
“Michael’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time,” the statement said, per People. “We would like to thank everyone who shared and supported this appeal.”
Selwood, who went by Mikey, had more than 22,000 followers on TikTok, where he consistently posted about his fights as well as his fitness progress as a boxer.
Greater Manchester police did not immediately return The Independent’s request for further comment. Selwood’s cause of death has not been released.
Selwood often promoted his fights on TikTok, but sometimes shared lip-syncing videos or clips of his dog and his son. His Instagram bio read, “Here just living my single best life drop follow come along for the ride.”
The last post Selwood shared on social media was July 14. In the video, he defended who he chose to fight in the ring.
“I could easily come on like all these TikTokers and fight ‘nobodies,’” he said. “Look back on the people I’ve fought. I haven’t fought ‘nobodies,’ I’ve fought people that have got things about them in the boxing game.”
Selwood then told his followers to speak to TBS Bugsy, a content creator who hosts fight nights for proof.
“I said to him, I don’t want nobody that’s a ‘nobody’ that hasn’t ever boxed,” he explained. “I want somebody that’s a hard fight because life’s about challenging yourself. And that’s what I’m doing.”
After news of his death, tributes poured in on the comments of Selwood’s posts.
“Awww so sad rip I used to love watching u so very sad,” one fan wrote on TikTok. Another commented, “So sad loved watching you videos and live kept so real rip thinking [of] the family and friends.”
A third added, “wtf am I hearing tonight Mikey… absolutely shook to hear you’re not here anymore! I truly hope you’re finally at peace. Rest in Peace.”
