- Sam Kerr was cleared of racially aggravated harassment earlier this week
Sonia Bompastor has revealed that Chelsea will not be taking any disciplinary action against Sam Kerr.
It comes after the 31-year-old was cleared of the racially aggravated harassment of a police officer earlier this week.
Kerr, who has played for Chelsea since 2019, had called PC Stephen Lovell ‘stupid and white’ following a heated argument at Twickenham Police Station in 2023.
Questions have also been mounting in recent days over whether Kerr will continue as the captain of the Matildas following the trial.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Bompastor confirmed that Chelsea would not be taking further action against Kerr over the matter.
‘I think as you could see Sam made a statement, she apologised for that and I think that’s enough,’ the Chelsea boss said according to Telegraph journalist Kathryn Batte.
‘Sometimes you can make mistakes. It’s what you learn from that and how you move forward.
‘Probably she thinks I don’t want to go through that anymore. You need to be forgiven for that and move forward.
‘She was clear in her statement and I think that’s enough. What she was facing for her was hard enough.’
‘Since I joined Chelsea I know Sam as a player and person and I was really surprised for her to be involved with that. Who she is doesn’t reflect what I heard in the court and what I was reading in the newspapers.’
‘Sam recognised that sometimes you can make mistakes but from what I know from her she’s a really nice person.
‘It’s difficult for me to understand why it went that way and why she had to spend one week in court. Most important thing is she can look at the future.’
She also gave an update on when Kerr could return to action for the Blues, after the Matildas star had been sidelined for over a year with an ACL injury.
‘It’s difficult to give a really precise time frame for Sam,’ Bompastor said.
‘Really happy to have her back on pitch with us with the team. She’s progressing with her rehab and going in the right direction.’
