Legendary professional hockey goaltender Dominik Hasek has revealed that he’s received death threats from a former Russian president over his persistent criticism of the Russia-Ukraine War.
Hasek, a Czechia native who was born in communist Czechoslovakia, has been a vocal critic of Vladimir Putin and his invasion of his western neighbor since the war began.
On Tuesday, in comments published by the state-owned news agency TASS, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev returned the criticism while delivering a veiled threat on Hasek’s life.
The comments Medvedev delivered through his assistant claimed that Hasek suffered from ‘Russophobia’.
Medvedev also said the Hockey Hall of Famer should be careful crossing the street and should ‘not drink beer in unverified places.’
Hasek responded with a post on X, formerly Twitter, addressing Medvedev’s threats.
