Manchester City have confirmed that a fan died during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by arch-rivals Manchester United at the Etihad.
Sunday’s derby clash, which saw the visitors snatch all three points late in the game, was overshadowed by the tragic passing of a Man City fan following a ‘medical emergency’.
A statement from the Premier League champions’ social media account read: ‘Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match.
‘The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’
The tributes began to flood in in the aftermath on social media, with countless fans sending their condolences.
Former Premier League rivals also commented on the announcement, writing: ‘We send our condolences to their family, friends and all at Manchester City at this time.
