Jalen Hurts refused to reveal whether he will visit Donald Trump at the White House to celebrate the Eagles’ Super Bowl win.
Philadelphia’s players and coaches are due in the nation’s capital on April 28 to toast their stunning victory over the Chiefs in February.
But during an interview with TIME on Thursday, Hurts was asked if he was planning on heading to the White House.
‘Ermmmm,’ the quarterback said before staying silent, prompting an abrupt and awkward end to the interview.
Earlier this month, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie insisted every player would be given the choice whether to attend or not.
‘Our culture is that these are optional things,’ Lurie said. ‘If you want to enjoy this, come along and we’ll have a great time and if you don’t, it is totally an optional thing.’
There was speculation about whether Trump would invite the Eagles to the White House following their win at Super Bowl LIX.
The team did not visit Washington to celebrate victory at Super Bowl LII. Trump – then in his first term if office – canceled the event after it emerged that only a handful of players were planning to attend.
This year, Hurts was named Most Valuable Player after leading the Eagles to a stunning 40-22 victory over Kansas City in New Orleans.
The quarterback threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another score as Philadelphia denied Patrick Mahomes and Co a historic three-peat.
