Longtime New York Knicks analyst Brendan Brown passed away on Sunday at the age of 54, his wife announced on Facebook.
No exact reason was given for his passing by Kate Brown, with the Brown family saying they are in ‘shock’ over the news.
Brown most notably worked for MSG Network from 2008 until last year, as a constant presence on Knicks broadcasts.
He is also the son of legendary basketball coach Hubie Brown, who was at the Knicks’ helm from 1982-1987.
‘It doesn’t seem real to have to say this and I’m struggling to find the right words, but on Sunday Brendan unexpectedly passed away due to health complications,’ Kate Brown said. ‘We’re still in a bit of shock and processing.’
Former MSG Network broadcaster Brendan Brown, left, passed away over the weekend at 54
Brendan was the son of legendary coach, Hubie Brown, who coached the Knicks in the 1980s
Brendan Brown was also previously the primary color commentator for Knicks games for radio station ESPN New York.
Brown was succeeded by Moncia McNutt after he and MSG Network decided to ‘part company’ last January.
Hubie’s wife and Brendan’s mother, Claire Brown, passed away earlier this year
Hubie, 91, has not publicly commented on his son’s passing. He hired his son to be part of his Memphis Grizzlies staff.
Brendan was also an assistant coach at Wake Forest before getting into broadcasting. Before being hired by MSG Network, Brown was a scout with the Knicks from 2006 to 2008.
The Knicks’ next game is on Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks, where the team is expected to pay tribute to Brown.
