Last time out: Haiti impress but beaten by Scotland

Haiti’s World Cup return has come while there is unrest at home but Sebastien Migne’s side did their nation proud with a battling performance against Scotland in Boston.

Haiti fell behind to John McGinn’s opening goal but had the better of the chances in the second half, and forced Scotland to desperately hang on to their win.

Haiti now need something of a miracle in their remaining games. They will need to beat at least one of Brazil or Morocco.

Last time out: Brazil underwhelm in opening draw with Morocco

Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil failed to excite as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in their Group C opener. Brazil were largely second best and were rescued by Vinicius Jr’s stunning equaliser after falling behind to the World Cup semi-finalists from four years ago. Igor Thiago, the Brentford striker, struggled on his World Cup debut and it would be a surprise if Ancelotti did not make a change in attack.

Neymar ruled out of Brazil’s World Cup clash with Haiti due to lingering calf injury

Brazil star Neymar will miss the upcoming World Cup group stage match against Haiti in Philadelphia, the national federation has confirmed.

The forward, who has been battling a calf injury, was already sidelined for Brazil’s opening draw against Morocco last Saturday, having been selected for the squad despite the ongoing issue.

A statement issued by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on Thursday stated:

“Neymar will not travel with the squad to Philadelphia. He will remain in New Jersey to optimise the final stage of his recovery, utilising the excellent facilities at The Ridge hotel and the Columbia Park training complex.”

Good evening and welcome

Brazil are looking for their first victory of the World Cup as they take on Haiti late on Friday in Philadelphia.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side endured a difficult opening match against Morocco, going behind in New York before a sublime equaliser from Vinicius Jr.

They had to settle for a point in the end and will have to play again without Neymar, who has been ruled out of this clash due to injury.

As for Haiti, they made it tough for Scotland in their opening game but need the biggest result in their football history to claim their first point in World Cup football.
