  • Explosive comments have been made on polarising show

Fox League presenter Braith Anasta has returned serve at St George Illawarra chairman Andrew Lancaster, after he took aim at the media in a stunning tirade.

Lancaster pointed the finger at journalists over their handling of the club’s dire situation. which has seen them endure an 11-match losing streak.

He made the comments after revealing St George Illawarra had parted ways with former coach Shane Flanagan following a winless 0-7 start to the 2026 season.

‘A lot of it [the media coverage] [has been] absolutely deserved. Some of it poor, and some of it about personal agendas,’ Lancaster said.

‘I’ve been in media longer than most. Our coverage of this great game, of this great club, should be better.’

But Anasta, who is an NRL legend, and now working as NRL 360 host on Fox Sports, felt the need to fire back.

‘I think it’s a convenient narrative Andrew Lancaster is pushing to try and smother his own poor leadership and decisions that he has made,’ Anasta said on NRL 360.

‘To try and point his finger at the media and me, indirectly, I thought was weak as piss, just like his press conference was. He took no accountability today.

‘He had an opportunity to have some backbone, to have some balls and sit there and say I’ve made some poor decisions … we’ve got it wrong at times.’

Anasta continued his verbal tirade, and revealed he has taken the attack quite personally.

‘Instead, he tried to blame it on everyone else bar himself and I don’t know if he’s come at me or not but he’s come at the media,’ he added.

‘You don’t need to be Einstein to work out that they’ve created records by losing 11 games in a row.’

Anasta’s response came just hours before St George Illawarra announced club legend Dean Young would be the Red V’s interim coach for the remainder of 2026.

Young played 209 games for the joint venture, and was an integral member of their 2010 NRL Premiership winning team.
