In desperate need of a way to shake off his slump, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh turned to some extreme measures to wash away his ‘bad mojo.’

Raleigh had been in the midst of a worrisome 0-for-38 slump at the plate that lasted nearly half the month of May.

The 2025 AL MVP runner-up hadn’t logged a hit since a game against the Minnesota Twins on April 27. He finally broke that drought on Tuesday night with a pair of hits.

All that was required of him was to shower in his full uniform on the advice of starting pitcher Logan Gilbert.

‘Logan gave me some good advice to wash off the bad mojo or juju from the baseball gods,’ Raleigh said.

‘So yeah, it worked. He was right, so I got to give him credit where credit’s due.’

On Tuesday, Raleigh hit a pair of singles to rout the Houston Astros 10-2 for the night.

Raleigh began his day going 0-for-2 with a walk before connecting on his first hit in weeks in the seventh inning. He followed it up with another in the ninth.

After finally breaking his duck, Raleigh raised his arms above his head and smiled toward the dugout as his teammates cheered for him.

‘I was kind of just, like, rolling my eyes because I knew everybody was going to be making a big deal about it,’ Raleigh said with a laugh. ‘But yeah, it felt good to barrel one up.’

Raleigh would then score on a double by teammate Randy Arozarena to make the score 8-2. When Raleigh walked into the dugout, he was met with plenty of high-fives and handshakes.

‘We were all screaming for him, and it was a lot of relief, for sure, and I know it felt good for Cal,’ Mariners manager Dan Wilson said.

Raleigh added, ‘It was great to see everybody smile and have a good time with it… We can make fun of it. And we can do those things. And guys can laugh at their own mistakes a little bit and keep it lighthearted around here and have fun.’
